The MI Mobility Fellows (MMF) Program is a highly selective fellowship designed to strengthen Michigan’s transportation and mobility ecosystem. The program aims to make Michigan’s mobility future more inclusive, accessible, and sustainable—improving the way people, goods, and ideas move across the state.
We define mobility as the movement of people, goods, and information using clean energy across land, water, and air.
Core Values
- Equity: Prioritizing accessibility and fairness in transportation systems and mobility solutions
- Innovation: Integrating current and future technology and emerging trends into practical applications
- Collaboration: Building cross-sector partnerships across Michigan’s mobility landscape
Cohort 3 Fellow Applications
Deadline extended. We are still accepting fellow applications for Cohort 3!
For Cohort 3, fellows will be placed across regional hubs throughout Michigan, working collaboratively with host site partners on regionally centered mobility projects. This is an opportunity to gain meaningful professional experience, build a statewide network, develop essential skills, meet and learn from industry experts, and contribute to impact projects that are ready for implementation.
You don’t have to be a transportation expert to belong in mobility. Fellow positions are open to recent graduates* of all degree fields and backgrounds, as long as you have demonstrated experience in mobility.
We are looking for emerging professionals who are full of curiosity and discovery, embrace collaboration, and are eager to take on challenges.
There are nine fellow positions across the state. You can read each position description by clicking the host site. To apply for a specific position, click that position title.

About the Program
Through cohorts one and two, fellows provided critical capacity to host site organizations, contributed to meaningful projects, developed as mobility professionals, and helped strengthen Michigan’s growing mobility ecosystem. Communities, organizations, and partners, and the broader ecosystem have expressed a need for greater collaboration and regional support that uses place-based solutions to address transportation needs unique to different parts of the state.
Utilizing this feedback and aligning with the Michigan Office of Future Mobility and Electrification’s MI Future Mobility Plan 2.0, Cohort 3 will build upon the foundations established by previous cohorts while introducing a regional partnership model designed to strengthen collaboration and increase community impact.
This approach recognizes that transportation challenges rarely belong to a single organization and instead require coordination and support across several partners. This new program model creates opportunities for partners to work together around shared goals, while providing fellows with a broader understanding of communities and sectors, and being involved with regional initiatives.
While the structure of the program is evolving, the core purpose of MMF remains unchanged.
The Regional Approach
Michigan mobility challenges and opportunities vary significantly from place to place. The regional model allows communities to identify and advance projects that respond to local priorities while contributing to statewide growth and mobility goals.
MMF Cohort 3
Cohort 3 will place 10 recent graduates (December 2024-December 2026) across five regional hubs. Over the course of 12 months, our third cohort of fellows will work on collaborative, community– and neighborhood-centered mobility projects led by these regional partnerships across Michigan that are ready for implementation. Cohort 3 will run November 2026-November 2027.
Projects are implementation-focused and accomplish one or more of the following objectives:
- Answer a research question related to mobility, transportation systems, emerging technologies, or equitable access
- Improve communities through initiatives that increase mobility access, connectivity, sustainability, or quality of life
- Advance a project or plan that supports implementation, coordination, deployment, or long-term mobility outcomes
