Position Summary:
The Director of Information Systems & Technology is responsible for the overall planning, organizing and execution of all IT functions for The Kalamazoo Community Foundation. This includes directing all IT
operations to meet customer requirements, researching and implementing ways that technology,
network-based systems, and cloud-based systems can increase organization and productivity, as well as
support and maintenance of existing applications and development of new technical solutions.
The Director of IST requires a broad range of skills from technical knowledge to understanding of
modern business practices and supports staff use of foundation information systems by facilitating
migrations, integrations, conversions, and/or technology change management support in all areas of the
organization. This includes leadership and communication skills plus a background in business

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategic Planning
 Make recommendations and oversee technical projects in alignment with KZCF’s strategic
framework and annual organizational goals
 Prepare financial budgets and present proposals for capital projects to senior management

 Direct professional development for IT staff and assume responsibility for the performance
management and assisting in the hiring of the IST staff.
Systems Design, Management, and Continuous Improvement
 Work with IT team to manage the design and implementation of data and information systems
across the foundation
 Develop, implement, and maintain best practices for the ongoing management of the
Foundation enterprise systems, internal IST processes
 Work with Database Managers to support and maintain overall integrity and quality of data
within the Foundation’s enterprise systems, improve business activities and internal IT
 Analyze complex business needs presented by the user community and recommend solutions
 Produce a detailed timeline for each application release and implement effective project control
by monitoring the progress of the software release and reporting the status
 Research and recommend new products

IST Administration
 Supervise IST staff, while working closely with management, external vendors, and advisors
 Ensure the consistency and maintainability of existing applications by creating, maintaining, and
enforcing standards and procedures for implementing technical solutions
 Direct executing production tasks according to a documented schedule that meets or exceeds
customer expectations
 Partner with all KZCF staff in the areas of systems design, modifications, and troubleshooting
 Ensuring adequate training for staff on foundation enterprise systems

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
 Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Information Technology and Sciences, or related field, or
an equivalent combination of training and relevant work experience;
 Proven experience with 7 or more years of experience within information technology and 5 or more
years of management responsibility and oversight of information technology.
 Ability to manage projects and teams
 Excellent understanding of CRM (Customer Relation Management) databases and process
 Proven ability to solve problems creatively

 Experience working in Community Suite, Financial Edge, Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint
administration level, Google Suite, and applications control management
 CISA certification or other similar recognized information systems management and
administration certification
 Understanding and experience with nonprofits and fundraising and grantmaking practices
 Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems or help desk experience to minimize
end user technology disruptions
 Working knowledge of a data warehouse
 Ability to present highly technical information to those with less formal education on the topic
 MAC system familiarity
 Technical accomplishment in large ERP negotiations and conversions
 Proven experience in information systems deployment and project management in an
integrated environment utilizing multiple databases installed both on site and cloud based

Physical/Mental Requirements:
 Work in a well-lit, pleasant, smoke-free office.
 Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
 Able to stoop, bend and move intermittently to do filing, move equipment, and supplies necessary
for job function.
 Involves frequent repetitive movement associated with extended periods of keyboarding.
 Frequently involves extended workdays and periodically involves irregular work hours.
 Occasional travel and/or overnight work schedules.
 Requires attention to detail and ability to concentrate on figures, paperwork, data, etc.
 Regular group and public speaking
 Frequent pressures related to meeting deadlines and fulfilling scheduling requirements.
 Frequent distracting influences such as people, phone calls, noise and so forth.
