Charlotte Smith, Irving Park Consulting, (Kalamazoo) At Large

 

Charlotte J. Smith is the President and CEO of Irving Park Consulting, LLC, which provides operations and organizational management consulting services aimed at improving efficiency and performance of nonprofit organizations. Charlotte previously worked as the Deputy Director of the Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) for both the Flint and Kalamazoo offices.  She was responsible for day-to-day operations in Flint and assisted with administrative operations in the Kalamazoo office.  Prior to joining LISC in 2017, Charlotte was the Deputy Director for Community Services at the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department.  In that role, she was responsible for overseeing the community services divisions of the county health department, including: Health Equity; Maternal and Child Health; Veterans Services; Area Agency on Aging; and the Community Action Agency. Earlier in her career, she spent 18 years at the State of Michigan’s Office of Children’s Ombudsman (OCO), including an executive appointment as Acting Director. The OCO is a watchdog agency that investigates social workers’ handling of child abuse, foster care, adoption, and juvenile justice cases and recommends legislative and policy changes aimed at improving the child welfare system.  She has a law degree from the University of Akron (Ohio) College of Law and a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Government from Eastern Connecticut State University. Charlotte has served on the CEDAM Board of Directors for several years and is currently the board President.
