AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies and community and faith-based groups across the country.

AmeriCorps programs do more than move communities forward; they serve their members by creating jobs and providing pathways to opportunity for people entering the nonprofit field. AmeriCorps places thousands of Americans into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship.

Since 2009, CEDAM has housed the Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Corps which responded to the foreclosure crisis by placing AmeriCorps members at housing counseling agencies to provide intake services and promote foreclosure prevention programs.

Michigan Financial Opportunity Corps

CEDAM is proud to be able to expand our programs to better meet the needs of our member organizations. As you may have heard, we have applied for another three year AmeriCorps State grant. The Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Corps is being renamed to the Michigan Financial Opportunity Corps. Despite a name change, it run very similarly to the Foreclosure Corps. While members can still serve in foreclosure prevention roles, the focus will be shifting to financial education.

ShowMeTheMoney-Logo-NoDateMember tasks will include:

  • Facilitating financial education classes (required);
  • Show Me The Money Day capacity building (required);

Rural Opportunity VISTA Program

vista-logoWe’re also happy to announce that we have received funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service to host an additional ten member AmeriCorps program. In partnership with Michigan Main Street (MMS) and the Council of Michigan Foundations, the Rural Opportunity VISTA program’s members will provide capacity building to organizations by expanding on existing programming or creating a new program from the ground up!

We are currently looking for nine MMS or rural community foundations that would like to host a VISTA member. The deadline to apply for the 2016-2017 program year is April 1, 2016.
