Angel Squalls, Climate Corps Program Manager

Angel manages the MI Healthy Climate Corps (MHC Corps) program, a new initiative and partnership with the MI Department of the Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. In her role, she is involved with recruiting and selecting host partners and MHC Corps members who provide critical support to communities tackling climate change. Angel manages day-to-day administration of the program, including training, reporting, and supporting members and host partners to facilitate a meaningful service experience.

Prior to her work at CEDAM, Angel was an Associate Forester at the City of Detroit’s General Services Department Forestry Division. She managed an in-house forestry crew, managed the removal contractors for hazardous tree removal, and spearheaded the successful implementation of the Mayor’s 10,000 Up Tree Planting Initiative, strategically planting thousands of trees across all seven council districts.

Angel has had a lifelong passion for service. At 15 years old, she became a member of the Detroit Youth Energy Squad AmeriCorps cohort at her local high school. Upon receiving her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Environmental Science and Society from Eastern Michigan University, Angel became a member of the Huron Pines AmeriCorps cohort. In her spare time, Angel enjoys enhancing the quality of life for residents in her community through service with her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, and spending time with her family and loved ones.
