Statement from CEDAM Executive Director Luke Forrest on Executive Order 2020-19 halting evictions through April 17

Lansing, MI—The COVID-19 pandemic is creating many challenges for Michigan residents and businesses. The executive order signed Friday, March 20 by Governor Whitmer halting evictions through April 17, 2020 was an important measure to protect Michigan’s most vulnerable residents. This order, in addition to the previous order extending the tax foreclosure deadline, will help ensure people can stay in their homes during a time where residents may be facing layoffs, a decrease in hours, and/or other situations resulting in financial hardship. We thank Governor Whitmer and her administration for their leadership on this important issue.

CEDAM looks forward to continuing to work with the Whitmer administration on a number of other policy responses, including support for vulnerable homeowners by halting mortgage foreclosures.

CEDAM is a state-wide membership association for community economic development. We support and advocate for vibrant neighborhoods, economic opportunity, equitable development, and housing security.
