You’ve seen many posts about the great work that Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Corps members are doing for their host sites and in their communities, but have you ever wondered how your organization could take advantage of such a valuable resource? CEDAM is hosting three MFPC information sessions in March. The sessions will include information on hosting an AmeriCorps member through MFPC, the benefits and restrictions for AmeriCorps members and have the opportunity to speak with both current host site supervisors and MFPC members.
Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Corps members increase capacity of their agencies in two major ways. First, they assist with getting the word out about foreclosure prevention services though marketing, outreach and building partnerships. In addition, MFPC members provide vital intake and triage services for organizations as the first point of contact for at-risk homeowners. Providing a knowledgeable, friendly face or voice to clients allows housing counselors to dedicate their time to clients who are equipped with paperwork and knowledge leading into their appointments.
Current MFPC host sites across the state say that without their AmeriCorps member, their organization would not be seeing nearly as many at-risk homeowners. MFPC host site supervisor C.J. Felton from Community Housing Network in Troy says, “Community Housing Network has been very fortunate to host three Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Corps AmeriCorps members over the last two years. Their professionalism, energy, positive attitude and sincere desire to help people in their community has made a positive impact on our organization, and enabled us to expand our foreclosure prevention services to serve many more homeowners in need.”
