This week’s Member Spotlight is on the Michigan Biopreferred Products Association (MBPA).
The MBPA is a statewide association that promotes the advancement of Michigan’s biobased product industry. Biobased products are products that are completely or significantly composed of biological or agricultural materials. Types of these products include ethanol, bioplastics, wool based insulation and plant based lubricants – and new ideas and applications are being discovered daily.
These products are extremely important for driving Michigan’s economy forward. They create entrepreneurial opportunities for green businesses in Michigan, while giving the producers more markets for their products.
There are four key elements for the MBPAs plan for the future:
- To advance and support the bio-preferred products of members
- To provide services to support the professional development, programming and informational needs of members and staff
- To advocate public policy issues on behalf of Michigan’s biopreferred industries
- To educate the public about the many products and services produced by members and the biopreferred products made, distributed and sold in Michigan
One great way that they are advancing and supporting their members is through creating an online Bio-Store that will have a comprehensive listing of biopreferred products and services produced in Michigan.
The MBPA offers many opportunities to its members, including networking, information sharing, annual awards, membership directory, and starting in 2012 a variety of professional development opportunities including conferences, webinars and workshops. Membership also includes access to MBPA Online – a member driven site with daily member news, event calendars, program information, professional development opportunities, career development information, job listings, blogs, Facebook, and Twitter news as well as Bio News Today – a monthly trade newsletter.
