On Thursday, February 10th, President Obama will visit Marquette to discuss his National Wireless Initiative – a drive to give 98% of Americans access to high speed internet.
Marquette is a prime example of the access to broadband’s impact on a rural community. Northern Michigan University operates its own 4th Generation WiMAX network. This has a far reaching effect on Marquette and the surrounding area. Local businesses have access to new markets and students have distance learning options that connect them to resources around the world.
The President will be given a demonstration on the WiMAX’s effect on business owners and students, as well as address the media in an invitation only event.
