The next general election is coming up on November 2, and it’s a big one! Michigan will be getting a new Governor, Attorney General, and Secretary of State, as well as replacing or re-electing large portions of our House, Senate, and Congressional delegation.

Anyone can find out what Michigan’s candidates think on various community development issues by visiting CEDAM’s candidate guide, available at www.cedamichigan.org/policy.  The guide will be live in October and will give you a chance to learn more about your candidates outside of the questions they are traditionally asked. (Note: If you have a relationship with a candidate for Michigan’s House or Senate or U.S. Congress, please encourage them to complete our survey!)

Nonprofits can get even more involved by joining the Michigan Participation Project, our chapter of the Nonprofit Voter Engagement Network.  Learn what to do and what not to do in an election year, find tools to host a candidate forum, and get free posters and iron-on decals to give to your coworkers, clients and friends. You can start by downloading a free nonprofit vote toolkit.

The Michigan Participation Project is also a great resource for voters, with registration links, frequently asked questions, a list of candidate forums, and candidate guides from CEDAM and other nonprofits.

The deadline to register to vote in the general election in Michigan is October 4. Spread the word and get involved!
