SUMMARY: The Vice President of Economic Development (VP of ED) is responsible for the execution and
management of The Enterprise Group’s (The EG) business development activities, focusing on the retention
and recruitment of companies and investors to Jackson County. The VP of ED must possess an exceptional
level of professional and political judgment with business and government leaders in our community. The VP
of ED must maintain a high-level confidentiality with both clients and The EG personnel and partners, be a
thought leader, problem solver and have the ability to lead others.
 A minimum of 3 to 5 years of business development leadership in an economic development
organization or jurisdiction, including a strong track record or negotiated project “wins”
 A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Planning, or related field is preferred
 Ability to think strategically and to constructively receive feedback
 A strong knowledge of grant administration, legal acumen, legislation and tax abatement is preferred
 Experience working with real estate experts and developers in the commercial and industrial setting
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills is required
 Ability to gather, collate and analyze a variety of data
 Thorough understanding of program research, development and implementation techniques
 Ability to apply and communicate technical legislation to Boards and Authorities staffed by The EG
 Strong organizational skills are required, as well as the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
 Thorough understanding of loan application and disbursement processes
 Ability to build and strengthen relationships among stakeholders
 Ability to advocate for positions that support the company’s goals
 Leads business growth via implementation of the Business Success Retention/Expansion Program through
routine visits and detailed follow up with 80-100 manufacturers and large employers annually
 Represents The EG and Jackson County in the Greater Ann Arbor Region’s (GAAR) economic
development partnership and with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC)
 Guides applicants and municipalities through the Brownfield Redevelopment process
 Packages loan recommendations for the EDC revolving loan fund
 Serves on boards and committees relative to The EG’s strategic initiatives
 Seeks, manages, monitors and reports on various grant-funded revenue sources
 Prepares and presents written and verbal project reports and public presentations
 Collaborates with business owners and prepares periodic reports concerning businesses
 Establishes, develops and maintains effective working relationships with departmental staff, municipal
employees, local business owners and the general public
