Libby Palackdharry, Southwest Economic Solutions (Detroit) – At Large

Libby Palackdharry is the Senior Director of Financial Stability Programs and Operations at Southwest Economic Solutions (SWES).  In this role, she oversees SWES’ Homebuyer Education and Counseling, Foreclosure Prevention, and Financial Coaching programs. For the last four years, Libby’s team has hosted a CEDAM Financial Opportunity Corps member.

Libby’s team provides economic opportunities and housing security to Detroiters and other southeast Michigan residents through services that include: financial education and one-on-one coaching; helping homeowners apply for Step Forward assistance and property tax exemptions; helping homebuyers access to down payment assistance; providing access to credit building tools like Lending Circles and Twin Accounts; annual partnership with Accounting Aid Society to provide free tax preparation services; and annual participation in CEDAM’s Show Me the Money Day. Financial coaching services are integrated into SWES’s workforce development and ProsperUS Detroit entrepreneurship programs. The homeownership team works very closely with Southwest Housing Solutions on multiple community revitalization initiatives. Key external partners include Detroit LISC, Michigan State Housing Development Authority, CEDAM, NeighborWorks America, National Community Reinvestment Coalition, Prosperity Now, the Detroit Land Bank Authority, the City of Detroit, and financial institutions and real estate agents in the Detroit market.

Libby started at SWES as an AmeriCorps VISTA in 2009. Since then, she has developed SWES’s homeownership and financial coaching team to become a recognized leader in the field, receiving multiple awards including the Michigan State Housing Development Authority’s Housing Counseling Agency of the Year award in 2014 and the Champion for Working Families award at the Detroit Community Development Awards in 2015. In 2017, Libby was selected as one of Crain’s Detroit Business’s 40 Under 40 awardees. Libby received her undergraduate degree in Communications and Spanish from Michigan State University and her Master’s in Urban Planning from Wayne State University.

Libby is passionate about building thriving communities with equitable access to opportunities. She would like to join the CEDAM Board to support CEDAM’s work and use her on-the-ground experience to advocate for important policies to help families and communities in Michigan.
