Christine Bell, Urban Neighborhood Initiatives (Detroit) – Region 6

Christine Bell HeadshotExecutive Director of Urban Neighborhood Initiatives since October 2015, has experience in community development, program development, implementation and evaluation, research, advocacy, instruction, case management and direct service.  She is a licensed social worker who has served as a social work field instructor for three universities, and a trainer for two organizations focused on improving the quality of youth work nationally. Also, she is a faculty member of Madonna University’s Social Work Department.

Highlights of her UNI employment include using youth development best practice to create and implement youth programming, and increasing participation in human development programs for youth and adults from 270 people in 2009 to more than 2,000 people in 2015 through direct programming and collaborative efforts.  While serving as Human Development Director, she designed nine youth development programs including three youth employment programs and collaborated with volunteers to establish Southwest Rides, a social enterprise. She was the architect of the Southwest Detroit Mural Arts Project that has painted over 50 murals in UNI’s current service area.  She has been a leader in efforts focused on education in the local community, including the Southwest Detroit College Access Network, and Present in Southwest: An Attendance Initiative.

Ms. Bell holds a Bachelors in Social Work from Michigan State University (2001) and a Masters in Social Work from Wayne State University (2006).
